The Complete Guide to ISAT Test Preparation in Singapore

The International Students Admissions Test (ISAT) is an important exam that many international students – including students in Singapore – must take to gain admission to specific universities in Australia and Ireland. If you plan to enrol in medicine, dentistry, or selected healthcare-related courses in either country, you’ll need to do well on your ISAT to leave a lasting impression on the admissions team.

The ISAT measures students’ intellectual, critical, and quantitative reasoning skills. As the skills assessed during the ISAT are not typically covered during the Singapore curriculum, an ISAT test prep course can go a long way in helping you feel prepared for the exam.

Here are some critical steps you should take during the ISAT preparation process:

1. Understand the test format

The ISAT is a three-hour online test comprising 100 multiple-choice questions. Candidates will be provided with four or five potential answers per question and must select the most appropriate response. Although there is only one correct answer per question, no marks are deducted for incorrect answers. Your overall ISAT scores will also be scaled based on the performance of the overall cohort rather than being based on raw scores.

2. Identify your strengths and weaknesses

ISAT questions will require various skills, from quantitative skills to reading comprehension. This requires candidates to be all-rounded with proficient critical thinking skills in order to stand out from the crowd. Online ISAT test prep resources, such as those provided by Gateway+, can help you identify which areas you excel in and the gaps you still need to work on. Once you’ve identified your weaknesses, you can create a study plan for the test tailored to your needs.

3. Develop a study plan

Creating a study plan should be at the core of your ISAT preparation journey. Allocate time each day to study and work on areas you struggle with. At the same time, you should also review and reinforce the material you’re already comfortable with so that you can confidently tackle those areas during the exam.

4. Practice, practice, practice

One of the most critical aspects of ISAT test preparation is practice. Take as many ISAT practice tests as possible to become familiar with the test format and to reinforce your understanding of the material. Gateway+ provides ample online resources and study guides to supplement your practice and help you gain assurance that you’re on the right track. Taking our timed practice tests also helps improve your time management, so you know how to manage your time properly during the exam.
