The big day is fast approaching, and you’re ready to tackle the GMAT. The bulk of your studying is done, and now you wonder what you should do before the actual exam day. Here are some pointers that will help you be at the top of your game when you walk into the testing centre.

Advice #1 – Don’t revise until the last minute

There is only so much your brain can effectively learn in a short period of time. By studying all the way to the actual exam, you would only stress yourself and not learn anything new. Finish all your preparation a few days before the exam, and spend some time just browsing through your notes. On the day immediately preceding the GMAT, take a day off – relax, unwind, go for a walk or hang out with friends. This would help you feel refreshed and at ease on the exam day.

Advice #2 – Maintain your routine

You might have heard the advice, “get a good night’s sleep and a proper breakfast”. The truth is, you should maintain a routine that your body is used to – suddenly changing your schedule would only result in stress and discomfort. If you usually go to bed late, trying to turn in for the night at 8pm wouldn’t do you much good, as you’ll just twist and turn and go to sleep at your usual time. Same goes for breakfast – if you normally skip it, eat something light on the exam day; no use stuffing yourself with food you don’t want to eat. Just make sure you schedule your exam for the time that best suits the schedule you’re used to.

Advice #3 – Bring your passport

In Singapore, a passport is the one and only acceptable form of ID for GMAT admission. This is irrespective of your nationality, and no other form of ID would be accepted. Make sure you prepare it in advance to avoid any unexpected surprises at the test centre.

Advice #4 – Bring some snacks

You won’t have time to run to the store in the two 8-minute breaks you will have, so bring something to nibble on. Not only will it give your brain much needed nutrients, you will feel a little better too and be able to concentrate better. Just avoid bringing something smelly because someone else will be using your locker after you’re done.

Advice #5 – Bring extra clothes

The testing centres are very well air-conditioned. Extra clothes would keep you warm and comfy and allow you to focus on the issues at hand.

Final Advice – Don’t stress over it

This is just an exam. You’ve done these before – countless times, in fact! It might very well not be your last. So be confident – this is not the end of the world, and this is not what defines you as a person. You’re going to do just fine!
